| The
passing of Mary P. Smith (obit from the Martinsville Bulletin) | Mary
Prillaman Smith, 97, of 4087 Sunset Drive, Martinsville, died Thursday, May 24,
2001, at the Blue Ridge Rehab Center. She was born March 30, 1904 in the Dyers
Store Community of Henry County, a daughter of the late Peter Allen Prillaman
and the late Eliza Draper Prillaman. She also was preceded in death by her husband,
Noel A. Smith; three sisters, Kizzie P. Moore, Theodora P. Watkins and Ruth P.
Langdon; and six brothers, Nick Prillaman, Lafe Prillaman, Vance Prillaman, George
Prillaman, Jim Prillaman, and Robert Prillaman. She was a member of Chatham Heights
Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Ann S. James of Martinsville;
three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Norris Funeral Services chapel
with Dr. Mike Hatfield officiating. Burial will be in the Prillaman family cemetery
in the Dyers Store Community. The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral
Services one hour prior to Saturday's service and other times at the home of her
grandson, Dennis James, 555 Mountain Mist Drive, Dyers Store Community, Martinsville.

Have
been working on the revisions to the Prillaman Family pages for over a month and
still am not finished. When complete, I hope to have a lot more photos, documents,
stories, facts, and a searchable database. The goal has been to make the site
easier to navigate and read. | |
| In
April, I traveled to Henry County Virginia. This visit included an afternoon in
the Henry County Courthouse where I found many documents on related lines but
as not as much on the Prillaman family as can be found at the Franklin County
Courthouse. I didn't make it to the Franklin County Courthouse this visit but
I did find the time to visit some cemetaries and talk with relatives in the village
of Henry in Franklin County about their Prillaman lines. Jacob Prillaman Jr.,
Daniel Prillaman, and Thomas Helm lived near the village of Henry and had Turners,
Dyers, and Pyrtles for neighbors. Daniel Prillaman's house burned in the early
1900's but a new house was built around the original chimneys which still stand.
I had just set my camera to take a photo of the house and chimneys when huge flakes
of snow began to pour from the sky. So who knows how those photos will turn out.
I also spent time in the Barrows Mill/Dyer's Store area of Henry County, an area
which was home to many of the descendants of James Prillaman and Martha Cannaday. | |
